Cancer Insurance

Hope & Coverage, Hand in Hand.

Cancer Insurance

Cancer Insurance is a specialized policy designed to provide financial assistance to individuals diagnosed with cancer after the free look-up period specified in the purchased cancer insurance policy’s terms and conditions. These policies offer coverage for various costs associated with cancer diagnosis and treatment, including hospitalization, chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and more.

How Does Cancer Insurance Work?

A cancer insurance policy becomes active as soon as a person is diagnosed with cancer. Upon diagnosis, the insurance company pays a lump sum amount equivalent to the sum insured. This amount can be used to cover the treatment costs associated with cancer. The claim money is typically payable at various stages of diagnosis, including minor, major, and critical stages, provided the diagnosis occurs during the policy year. However, cancer insurance policies do not offer death, maturity, or surrender benefits.

Multiple Cancer Stages: These plans cover multiple stages of cancer.
Lump Sum Payout: A lump sum amount is paid to the insured upon cancer diagnosis.
Premium Waiver: Premium waiver benefit is available under certain conditions, such as an early-stage cancer diagnosis.
Sum Insured Enhancement: If there are no claims during the year, the sum insured increases by a pre-specified percentage.
Monthly Payout: Monthly income is paid out for a specified number of years, subject to certain conditions, such as in the case of a major cancer diagnosis.
Continuum of Coverage: Cancer insurance coverage under several plans does not cease after the first diagnosis of the disease.
Tax Benefits: Tax benefits under section 80D of the Income Tax Act are available on paid premiums.

Why Do You Need a Cancer Insurance Plan?

Purchasing a cancer insurance policy is crucial due to the high cost of cancer treatment, which typically extends over a long period. This disease can have a significant impact on families physically, emotionally, and financially. Additionally, even the best health insurance policy may not cover all cancer treatment-related costs, and if it does, there may be conditions for coverage at different stages of cancer.

Exclusions of a Cancer Insurance Plan

The following diseases or medical conditions are typically not covered under a cancer insurance plan:

  • Skin cancer
  • Cancer caused by sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, or AIDS
  • Cancer resulting from congenital conditions and pre-existing conditions
  • Cancer resulting from biological, nuclear, or chemical contamination
  • Cancer caused by contact with radiation or radioactivity from any non-diagnostic or therapeutic source
  • Note: These are general exclusions, and specific exclusions may vary between insurers.
